How did Lingo get its name? I am wondering if an understanding of African cosmology--philosophical and theologicial traditions have any bearing on your invention of Lingo as a scripting language for Director? I am a second year student at ITP (struggling with Lingo, by the way). At the moment, I am researching for a paper for Art Kleiner's Future of the Infrastructure in which we discuss driving forces that could influence the world of telecommunications and multimedia in the future. I'd like to make a case study of John Thompson and Lingo--exemplifying the fact that the embrace of philosophical and theological traditions of Non-Western cultures can lead to fundamental technological breakthroughs. Just following a hunch. Don't know if I'm on the right track. Phone is best, give me some time slots next week and I'll give you a call. -jt ps. You just missed me at ITP. I was teaching there until this summer. I've now relocated my family to the Bay Area. John Thompson JT, Thank you for agreeing to talk with me about the development of Lingo. Mornings are best for reaching me, Saturday & Sunday mornings are the clearest; Monday, Tuesday, Friday mornings 9 am -10am are OK. I imagine that a later time might be better for you since we are on opposite coasts. Please let me know. My number is ______________. [What were your influences in the development of Lingo? IF I had known you'd be leaving, I would have taken your class instead of Motion Graphics!
